The New Apartment episode 5

The New Apartment Episode Five

As early as 6am in the morning, Jane went to her landlord’s apartment to wake him up. The man was still sleeping when Jane came knocking at his door. Jane did not mind that she could be disturbing his early morning sleep with the persistent knocks, because she too did not sleep. The landlord came out after a long period of repeated knocks at his door. When he came out, he was still feeling sleepy, but Jane did not care.

“Our people say if a child will not allow its mother to sleep, the child will not sleep as well.” Jane began the conversation with a proverb. The landlord was wondering what led to such a proverb from Jane that early morning.

“What is the problem? Why are you knocking at my door so early? I hope everything is fine? Did armed robbers attack your apartment? Why are you talking about sleep? You mean you didn’t sleep last night?” The landlord asked. He dragged a bench to the veranda and sat down. He offered Jane a seat but she refused to sit down.

“No landlord, I will not sit down. The situation at hand is so urgent that I cannot sit down and talk about it. I have to stand up so that you will be looking at my face very well. I’m having a serious problem in my apartment and I want you to attend to it without delay.” Jane said. Her voice was loud.

“Stop shouting now. Why are you shouting at me? Say whatever you want to say calmly and I will still hear you and solve your problem. If you shout, I might be forced to go back inside and continue my sleep.” The landlord said.

“Landlord, you are not going back inside until you explain why I cannot sleep with my two eyes closed in the apartment I paid so much money for.” Jane said in reply. She was not afraid of the man and she was eager to pour out her heart in full. Since yesterday’s night, she has been battling alone with her problems. Now, she finally had the opportunity to speak to someone and she was going all out.

“What do you mean when you say you are not able to sleep in your apartment? What is the problem there? Everything was working well in the apartment before I handed over the keys to you. The electricity was well fixed and working. Is there no water there? Is the roof leaking? Where is the problem coming from?” The landlord asked.

“It is none of those problems you just mentioned. There is a spiritual problem in the apartment and I don’t think you actually understand yet. I think you need to pass a night in the apartment before you can fully understand what I’m trying to explain to you.” Jane lamented.

“Why would I pass a night in your apartment? Am I your husband? Just tell me the problems you are having in your apartment so that we can look for a way to fix it.” The landlord said.

“I have told you the problem. I said there is a spiritual problem in the apartment. There is a little girl who lives in the apartment and she does not allow me to sleep. She keeps disturbing me in the night. I wonder who she was but she said she was killed and used for rituals. I don’t know who killed her but she has said she would kill anyone that lives in the apartment. I almost died last night when I was trying to run away from her. As a matter of fact, I had to stay outside the apartment until daybreak. So, my question to you is, who is that girl and who killed her?” Jane asked. The landlord looked at her with amazement.

“Are you hallucinating or what? There is no evil spirit in the apartment. Maybe you were dreaming of an evil spirit and you thought it was real. Please, do not come to my house next time to wake me up because of your dreams. Mind you, I do not interpret dreams.” The landlord responded angrily. Jane was very angry when she heard what the landlord said.

“Instead of you to sympathize with me you are saying I’m hallucinating. I’m telling the truth. I’m not a child that I will be telling lies with something as serious as that. I’m telling you there is an evil spirit in my apartment. Please, you have to refund me my money, I want to pack out.” Jane said. But the landlord did not even pay her any attention. He simply stood up and left the place.

The landlord’s action and harsh words infuriated Jane but there was nothing she could do at the moment. She yelled and shouted at the landlord but the man did not come back. He went back in and continued to sleep.

“When I have your time, I will face you and collect my money from you. You don’t know who you are messing around with. I will eventually teach you a bitter lesson.” Jane said as she leaves the place in total defeat.

“The landlord thinks something is wrong with my head. He thinks I’m a mad woman. He said I was hallucinating. What an insult! Well, I will come back to him when I have time. For now, I want to face Pastor Tunde and collect all the money he took from me.” Jane said. She walked very fast. She entered her apartment with courage, took her bath and left for work. When she stepped out into the street, she brought out her phone and called Pastor Tunde.

“Hello Pastor Tunde. How are you doing sir? The spiritual job you did for me worked wonders. I would like to specially thank you for all you did for me. Thank you so much for your prayers. The prayers worked so well. I did not hear the voice of the little girl again. I would like for us to meet so that I will give you that thing that I promised you. I know you have been waiting for the bedroom action. I will book a hotel for us. I will text you the name of the hotel. Meet me there by 5pm. I will be in the hotel room waiting for you.” Jane said with a romantic voice. She was telling lies. She was only looking for a way to lure Pastor Tunde to the hotel so that she would implement her plan.

“I’m so glad to hear from you. Expect me by 5pm. I will be there for the special enjoyment.” Pastor Tunde said with a happy voice.

“When you come, you will see ‘shege’ in my hands. You will not believe what I will do to you. After today, you will run away when you see a woman named Jane.” Jane said to herself when she hung up.
