SHOCK
EPISODE 3
WRITTEN BY RUKEVWE MERRY
Daniel ignored the questions reeling in his mind and quickly pulled Daniella up, cradling her in his arms. He rushed her to the bed, gently laying her down on the soft blankets. He grabbed a glass of water from the bedside table and sprinkled it on her face, trying to revive her.
As the water droplets hit her skin, Daniella’s eyes flickered open, unfocused and glassy. Daniel sprayed more water, hoping to bring her back to consciousness. Slowly, her gaze cleared, and she looked up at Daniel, confusion etched on her face.
“D-Daniel?” she stammered, her voice barely above a whisper.
Daniel’s heart skipped a beat. She spoke again! He smiled, relief washing over him. “Yes, Daniella, it’s me. You fainted. What happened?”
Daniella’s eyes darted around the room, as if searching for something. Then, her gaze locked onto the photo on the floor, and her expression changed to one of horror.
“No… no… it can’t be,” she whispered, her voice trembling.
Daniel followed her gaze to the photo, and his mind raced with connections. What did the photo have to do with Daniella’s past? And why did it evoke such a strong reaction from her?
Daniel carefully picked up the photo, but as he approached Daniella, she screamed, “No! No!” Her eyes were wide with fear, and she cowered away from him. Daniel immediately understood and kept the photo at bay, trying to calm her down.
“Hey, it’s okay. I won’t show it to you again. Please don’t be scared,” Daniel said, opening his arms to hug her.
Daniella hesitated for a moment before embracing him, her body still shaking. Daniel held her close, trying to comfort her.
After a while, Daniel suggested, “Why don’t you sleep for a bit? You’re clearly exhausted.”
But Daniella refused, “No, I need to tell you something.”
Daniel insisted, and eventually, Daniella relented, falling asleep with Daniel by her side.
A few minutes later, Daniella woke up, looking determined. “Daniel, I need to tell you something. Those people in the photo… they were murd..ered before me. I witnessed it.”
Daniel’s eyes widened in shock. “My parents were murd..ered five years ago. The police and my uncles have been trying to find a way to apprehend the people who did it, but to no avail.”
Daniella took a deep breath, about to continue, but suddenly fainted again. Daniel let her sleep, his mind racing with questions.
He took out his phone and called his Uncle James. “Uncle, I have good news. My girlfriend says she knows the people who murd..ered my dad. She witnessed the scene.”
But Uncle James replied, “That’s not true. She’s lying.”
Daniel insisted, “No, it’s true. The way she described how my parents were shot… I believe her.”
Daniel asked his uncle to inform Uncle Jude so they could go to the police station with Daniella to give the police a description of the ki,!!ers. But Uncle James asked, “Where is the girl? Your girlfriend?”
“She’s with me in my apartment in school, sleeping,” Daniel replied.
As soon as the call with Daniel ended, James immediately dialed Jude’s number. “Jude, we have a problem,” James said, his voice laced with concern.
“What is it?” Jude asked, his tone calm.
“It seems someone saw us when we murd..ered our young brother,” James replied, his words sending a chill down Jude’s spine.
“That’s not possible,” Jude said, trying to reassure himself. “The place was secluded. No one could have seen us.”
“We can’t take chances,” James insisted. “We need to send that girl to our brother and his wife.”
Jude hesitated for a moment before responding, “What are we waiting for? Call the goons.”
James nodded, even though Jude couldn’t see him. “I’ll call them now. We’ll take care of this once and for all.”
As James ended the call, he felt a sense of unease. Had they really been seen? And who was this girl who claimed to have witnessed the mur..der? He pushed the thoughts aside and dialed the number of the goons they had hired to take care of their problems.
“Hello?” a gruff voice answered.
“We need you to take care of a girl,” James said, his voice firm. “She’s in Daniel’s apartment in school. We’ll send you the details.”
The voice on the other end grunted. “Consider it done.”
James hung up, feeling a sense of relief wash over him. The problem would be taken care of.
