REGRETFUL
EPISODE 1
Mr. and Mrs. Okafor, a loving couple from a middle-class family, beamed with pride as they watched their twin daughters, Isabella and Isabel, grow into talented young women. While they weren’t wealthy, they were content with their modest life, filled with love, laughter, and warmth. Isabel, the younger twin, had always been her father’s pride and joy. She excelled academically, effortlessly mastering complex concepts and earning top grades. She also assisted with household chores, demonstrating a keen sense of responsibility and a willingness to help others. Her father admired her dedication and work ethic, often praising her in front of the family.
In contrast, Isabella, the eldest twin, struggled in school. She found it difficult to focus and often felt overwhelmed by her assignments. Despite her best efforts, she couldn’t seem to match her sister’s academic prowess.
Mr. Okafor frequently compared the two, urging Isabella to emulate Isabel’s excellence. “Why can’t you be more like your sister?” he would ask, his tone laced with disappointment. This constant comparison created a deep-seated resentment in Isabella, who felt like she could never measure up. She began to doubt her own abilities and felt like she was living in her sister’s shadow.
As the twins grew older, the comparisons persisted. Isabel continued to excel in her studies and career, landing a prestigious job at a top firm. She was a rising star, and her father couldn’t stop bragging about her accomplishments.
Meanwhile, Isabella struggled to find a job, facing rejection and disappointment at every turn. Mr. Okafor’s constant praise for Isabel’s achievements only widened the gap between the sisters. Isabella felt like she was invisible, like her father didn’t care about her struggles or accomplishments.
Isabel, aware of the tension, tried to reason with her father. “Dad, please understand, Isabella is trying her best. She’s just different from me, that’s all.” But Mr. Okafor remained stubborn, convinced that his approach would motivate Isabella to improve. He didn’t realize that his words were po!soning the sisters’ relationship, creating a rift that seemed insurmountable.
One day, Isabel left work late and couldn’t hail a cab. As the darkness closed in, a sleek car pulled up beside her. The driver, Dave, asked with a charming smile, “Need a lift?” Isabel hesitated at first, but his warm personality put her at ease.
“I’m Dave,” he said, extending his hand.
Isabel took it, feeling a spark of electricity as their palms touched. “I’m Isabel,” she replied.
As they drove, Dave’s easy conversation made Isabel feel comfortable. He asked about her day, and she found herself opening up to him. He listened intently, his eyes sparkling with interest. Isabel couldn’t help but notice how handsome he was, his chiseled features illuminated by the dashboard lights.
When they arrived at her compound, Dave gallantly opened the door for her. Isabella watched from the window, a thought crossing her mind: “Isabel always gets the best of everything. This car is worth millions! This guy must be wealthy.” She couldn’t help but feel a twinge of envy, wondering what it would be like to live Isabel’s life.
Dave promised to visit again and asked for Isabel’s number. She agreed, and he programmed it into his phone with a flourish.
“I’ll make sure to take you out for a proper dinner next time,” he said, his eyes crinkling at the corners. Isabel thanked him for the ride, and he replied, “You’re welcome,” before driving away with an ev!l laugh.
“Hehe, she has a nice shape and figure,” Dave thought to himself. “She’ll make enough money for me. I just have to win her heart. Women can easily fall for rich boys like me.” His sinister intentions were hidden behind his charming smile, leaving Isabel unaware of the danger that lurked ahead.
