EPISODE 13
WRITTEN BY RUKEVWE MERRY
George swallowed his pride, determined to save Jenson. “I’m ready to do what you want, Ava. I’ll arrange for us to get engaged in one week.”
Ava smiled, triumphant. “Good boy. Now, throw this old hag out. She should leave empty-handed.”
Granny decided to take the high road and walk outside, but Ava called her back.
“Pointing at George, slap this old hag,” Ava ordered.
George’s fury erupted. “How dare you, Ava?”
Ava threatened, “If you don’t slap her this minute, you won’t like what I’ll do to your son.”
Granny turned to George, “Hit me, don’t worry…”
George refused, but Granny held his hand, trying to force him.
Just then, Mr. Ethan, Ava’s father and Kate’s uncle, arrived with his wife.
“What are you doing, George?” Mr. Ethan screamed.
Ava’s eyes widened, worried her plan would unravel.
“Father, what are you doing here?” Ava asked, trying to stall.
“We came to see Kate,” Mr. Ethan replied. “George called us some hours back, she is awake.”
Ava signaled George to send Granny away, but Mr. Ethan noticed.
“Where are you going, Granny?” Mr. Ethan asked.
Granny wisely revealed Ava’s sinister plan.
“Mr. Ethan, Ava has kidnapped Jenson and is blackmailing George into marriage.”
Mr. Ethan’s face darkened. “How dare you, Ava?”
He raised his hand to slap Ava, but she defied him.
“If you dare hit me again, I’ll forget you’re my father.”
Ava’s mother intervened, slapping Ava.
“You ev!l girl! Bring back Jenson or else you’ll cease to be my child.”
Ava’s smile twisted with anger.
“To hell with you, Mom and Dad. I don’t even want to be associated with pøør people like you.”
Mr. Ethan’s face turned red and strange, his anger boiling over. “Guards, hold Ava!” he shouted.
George’s guards immediately pinned Ava down, holding her firmly.
Mr. Ethan gave her another slap. “I should have corrected you long ago. I gave you all you needed, and that’s why you turned out to be a spoilt brat.”
“Now, call the people holding Jenson and tell them to leave him,” Mr. Ethan demanded.
Ava refused, her eyes flashing with defiance.
Mr. Ethan’s anger intensified, and he gave her more slaps.
Ava, still held down by the guards, dialled one of the hooligans’ numbers.
The word that came out of her mouth sent chills down George’s spine: “Ki!l Jenson.”
George shouted, rushing to where she was, “No! Don’t harm my son!”
The guards immediately released Ava, and she fell to the floor, her face red from the slaps.
Ava swiftly got up, her eyes blazing with anger. “If this ever happens again, George you won’t see Jenson,” she threatened.
She spoke to the other person on the end of the call, “Don’t harm him,” she said before cutting the call.
Ava stood up, her face twisted in malice. “For this tørture, you allowed my father to inflict on me. I will inflict it on your son.”
“Or,” Ava sneered, “you have a romantic night with me. Who knows, I might just get pregnant and give you a cute son.”
George grabbed her throat, suffocating her. “How dare you think I would touch a disgusting person like you?”
He pushed her aside and stormed upstairs.
Only to see Kate awake, struggling to stand up from her bed, her legs stiff from three years in coma.
George rushed to her side. “Kate, you’re awake! My love!”
He held her hand, kissing it.
Kate pushed him away, confusion etched on her face. “You’re my sister’s fiancé. Don’t do this, please.”
George’s desperation dissipated as he recalled the doctor’s words. He shifted his focus, concern etched on his face. “How are you doing? I was the one who rescued you from the accident scene. I brought you here and have been taking care of you for three years.”
Kate’s eyes widened in shock. “Three years? I’ve been sleeping for three years?”
George smiled warmly. “But I’m happy you’re back. Can I be your friend?”
Kate’s smile mirrored his. “Thank you for saving me. We can be friends.”
As Kate struggled to stand, George promised to bring a wheelchair the next day.
Downstairs, Ethan escorted Granny back to her room, ensuring Ava was left alone with her mother.
Ava’s mother rushed to her side, feigning anger. “Ava, my dear, I had to pretend to be angry to gain their trust.”
Ava understood, her voice low. “That’s true, Mom. Please get close to them, find out their plans.”
Her mother nodded and helped Ava to her room.
**************AVA’S ROOM*********
Once inside, Ava’s mother vowed to inflict the slap on Jensen’s face. “Don’t worry, Mom. We’ll go tomorrow, and you can deal with him. I’m glad I have your support.”
*******GEORGE’S ROOM************
In George’s room, he offered to fetch food for Kate. As he exited, Ava intercepted him, demanding an immediate engagement for tomorrow evening and grand party.
George agreed but prioritized seeing his son’s face. Ava arranged a video call with Jenson, who appeared pale and worn.
[Sound of train horns and rumbling wheels filled the background]
The call ended abruptly, and Ava reminded George of the engagement. “Don’t forget, tomorrow.”
“I won’t,” George replied, his mind racing.
********THE KITCHEN********
George went to the kitchen and prepared something for Kate. Just then, Ava’s mother came in.
“George, Ava promised to take me to where she’s hiding Jenson,” Ava’s mother said, her voice barely above a whisper. “Once we get there, I’ll send you the location.”
George’s eyes locked onto hers, gratitude evident. “Thank you, ma. I would appreciate that.”
Ava’s mother waved her hand. “You don’t need to thank me, George. This is just my way of showing I’ve changed.”
George nodded, hope rising.
After Ava’s mother left, George finished preparing Kate’s meal.
************GEORGE’S ROOM***********
He carefully fed Kate, watching her smile as she savored each bite.
“Thank you, George,” Kate whispered, her eyes shining with gratitude.
George’s heart swelled. “You’re welcome, my friend,Rest now.
After Kate drifted off to sleep, George headed to Granny’s room.
*******”GRANNY’S ROOM*********
Ethan and Grandma were discussing Ava’s betrayal.
“Granny, Mr. Ethan, I have a plan,” George said, determination etched on his face.
George shared his plans with Granny and Mr. Ethan.
*********THE NEXT DAY***********
The next day, Ava and her mother visited Jenson. As they arrived, Ava’s mother tried to send a text to George but received a slap from Ava.
“How dare you slap your own mother?” Ava’s mom shouted.
Ava instructed the hooligans to tie her mother up, confiscating her phone.
“Mom, did you think I’d get føøled by you? I saw you talking to George in the kitchen yesterday. You betrayed your daughter for George,” Ava accused.
“You’re insãné, Ava. You’re turning yourself into a cr!minal. There’s still time,” her mother pleaded.
Ava ordered the hooligans to cover her mother’s mouth with tape and left to get ready for the party.
Later, the engagement party commenced. The decorations were stunning, and influential guests filled the venue.
George wheeled Kate out, and Ava shone like a princess. Granny, Ethan, and George were elegantly dressed.
George welcomed the governor and his wife, who were already aware of the plan.
As the governor’s wife hugged Granny, Granny discreetly removed her ring without anyone noticing.
Granny slipped the ring into Kate’s clothing and gave George a high-five, signaling the task was done. Ava remained oblivious.
The MC announced the ring exchange ceremony, and George and Ava took the stage. Applause filled the air.
Granny approached the governor’s wife, engaging her in conversation.
“How are your kids?” Granny asked.
The governor’s wife replied, and Granny continued the charade.
“My dear, why aren’t you wearing your wedding ring? Don’t you know people will talk?” Granny asked, feigning concern.
The governor’s wife panicked, realizing her ring was gone.
“Granny, I wore it here. It must have fallen off somewhere,” she exclaimed.
Granny pretended surprise.
“Let’s search for it,” Granny suggested.
The governor’s wife frantically searched for her ring.
The governor approached his wife, concern etched on his face. “Dear, what’s wrong?”
“I’m looking for my wedding ring,” she replied, panic rising. “I remember wearing it when we arrived.”
Granny caught George’s eye, signaling him with a discreet hand gesture.
George excused himself from Ava and approached the governor. “What’s happening?”
“My wife’s diamond ring is missing,” the governor replied.
George swiftly called the guards. “Search everywhere for the ring.”
However, the guards returned empty-handed. “We couldn’t find it, sir.”
The governor’s wife insisted, “Search everyone; someone must have stolen it.”
The guards hesitated but began searching the guests. When they reached Kate, they refused to search her.
The governor’s wife intervened, determination in her voice. “Check the lady in the wheelchair…now.”
Despite initial reluctance, the governor’s wife searched Kate herself and found the ring hidden on her.
Kate’s eyes widened. “I don’t know anything!”
George and Granny exchanged knowing smiles.
The governor called the police, and Kate was arrested.
As the engagement party descended into chaos, George followed Kate to the station.
*************THE POLICE STATION*********
At the station, George shook hands with the governor and his wife. “Thank you for helping me out.”
The governor and his wife beamed with satisfaction.
At the counter, George made Kate an offer. “I’ve been begging for your release, but they’re asking for compensation….”
I will only pay for the compensation on one condition, George declared.
Kate’s eyes locked onto George’s. “What condition?”
George’s smile hinted at his plan. “Become my mistress.”
Kate’s face reflected her shock. “Are you crßzy? You’re my cousin’s fiancé… What will she say?when she find.”
George replied, “Leave that to me. I have been in love with you since you where in coma, and I want to be with you.”
You can at least say yes to the person who had been taking care of you.
Kate’s voice rose. “Do you call this love? You want me to be your mistress.”
George’s expression turned firm. “Then stay here and suffer. I’m out of here.”
As he turned to leave, Kate’s desperation took over.
“I agree, please help,” Kate pleaded.
George’s face softened. “I’ll be right back.”
After a few minutes, George returned and escorted Kate to a car. They drove to a luxurious mansion.
“You will stay here henceforth,” George instructed, pointing to the mansion.
He summoned the staff and instructed them to care for Kate.
“I’ll be back,” George assured Kate.
To himself, George thought, “I’m sorry, Kate. I had to do this to keep you safe from Ava, and also not to get engage to her”
George went back to his car and dialed his guards’ number.
“Find any warehouse close to a railway,” George instructed via phone. “That’s where Jenson is held. I heard the train noise during our video call. Search discreetly and report back.”
“Yes, sir,” the guard replied. “We’ll get on it right away.”
George drove back home, his thoughts on his next move.
At home, Ava ran to him, concern etched on her face. “Where’s Kate? You could have just stayed.”
George replied calmly, “You know I had to sort things out. The governor isn’t ready to listen; Kate is in jail.”
