Isabella resume at the office and inquired about the location of the Managing Director’s office. She was eager to receive orientation and guidance to ensure she could perform her duties effectively.
Following the directions, Isabella approached the MD’s office and knocked gently on the door. A deep voice from inside responded, “Come in.” The chair was positioned facing the wall, indicating the MD was engaged in a phone call.
Once the call concluded, he swiveled his chair around, and his eyes widened in surprise as he took in Isabella’s presence.
Henry’s face broke into a warm smile, reflecting his genuine happiness at seeing her again.
Henry rushed to hug Isabella, forgetting their past issues.
“Wow, Isabella! It’s great to see you!” Henry exclaimed. “I missed you so much.”
Isabella smiled, reciprocating the hug. “I missed you too, Henry.”
They caught up on old times before returning to their professional duties.
Henry guided Isabella through the company’s dos and don’ts and her work roles.
After the orientation, Henry walked Isabella to her office.
They apologized for the past, attributing it to misunderstanding.
Their friendship rekindled, they spent time together after work.
One evening, after the close of work, Henry took Isabella out.
“I have something special to ask you,” Henry said, his eyes shining with excitement.
Isabella’s heart skipped a beat.
Henry dropped to one knee, holding a small box.
“Isabella, I’ve lost you once before, but now I realize I can’t bear the thought of living without you. Will you do me the honor of being my girlfriend?” Henry asked, his eyes locking onto hers as he opened the box to reveal a breathtaking ring.
Tears of joy filled Isabella’s eyes.
“Yes, yes, I’ll be your girlfriend!”
Henry placed the ring on her finger, and they shared a tender kiss.
“I promise to always love you, support you, and be by your side through thick and thin,” Henry vowed. “I’ll make you happy, and our love will flourish.”
Isabella’s heart swelled.
“I promise to love and cherish you, Henry. Forever and always.”
Just then, Henry’s phone rang.
“Excuse me,” Henry said, answering the call.
His mother’s urgent voice echoed on the other end.
“Henry, come home immediately. It’s a matter of urgency.”
Henry’s expression changed.
“I have to go,” he told Isabella. “My mother needs me.”
Isabella nodded, concerned.
“Go, I’ll be here.”
Henry rushed home, unaware of the storm awaiting him.
Upon arriving, he found his mother in tears.
“What’s wrong, Mom?” he asked.
“Mrs. Clara called,” she replied. “It’s time to fulfill your promise.”
Henry’s eyes widened. “What promise?”
“Years ago, when our business struggled, Mrs. Clara’s family helped us,” his mother explained. “The condition was that you marry Anita.”
Henry shook his head. “I’m in love with someone else, Mom.”
Henry’s mother’s face hardened. “Marry Anita, or I’ll take my 0wn l:fe,” she thre*tened, her voice trembling.
Henry’s eyes widened in horror. “Mother, no! Don’t say that. I won’t leave my woman for a promise I wasn’t part of.”
His mother’s expression remained resolute. “The promise was for your future, Henry. You have everything because of it. Now, sacrifice for me. I won’t be a laughing stock, failing to fulfill a promise made years ago.”
Henry’s voice shook. “But, Mother, I’m in love. I can’t give her up.”
His mother’s eyes flashed. “Love? This infatuation will pass. Anita secures our family’s legacy. Choose wisely, Henry.”
