MY FIRST LOVE
EPISODE 3
WRITTEN BY RUKEVWE MERRY

Isabella dressed beautifully, her heart racing with excitement. She knocked gently on Henry’s door. “Come in,” he replied weakly. The doctor left as Isabella entered. Henry struggled to sit up, reaching for his medication.

“Let me help,” Isabella said softly. “I came to check on you and tell you something,” she said, smiling nervously. “I’ve thought about it, Henry. I’m ready to be your girlfriend.” Henry’s expression turned icy. “You left me to dr0wn yesterday, and now you’re telling me this?” he hissed. Isabella’s smile disappeared. “How could you say that? I was the one who rescued you! I jumped into the water to save you.” Henry raised an eyebrow. “Prove it. Show me the clothes you wore that day.”

“Henry, do I really need to prove this to you?” Isabella asked, hurt. “We’ve been friends for years. You should trust me.”

“I want to believe you, but I need proof,” Henry replied.

“The cloth I wore yesterday is in the bucket in the bathroom,” Isabella said. “Let’s go check.”

Henry nodded, and they headed to the boy’s quarter. Unknown to them, Anita had been eavesdropping and snuck in ahead, searching for evidence to discredit Isabella. She found the bucket with Isabella’s wet gown and took it.

When they arrived, Isabella went inside but returned empty-handed.

“I couldn’t find it,” she said, her voice trembling.

Henry’s expression turned cold.

“I don’t understand why you’re ly:ng,” he said. “I thought we were friends.”

Isabella’s eyes welled up with tears.

“I’m not ly:ng, Henry! I saved you! Ask Anita, she was there,” Isabella pleaded.

Just then, Anita appeared, a sly smile spreading across her face.

“I’m the one who saved you, Henry,” Anita said. “I begged Isabella to help, but she just stood there, watching you drown.”

Henry believed Anita, and Isabella’s anger boiled over.

“If you don’t trust me, there’s no need for our friendship,” Isabella said, her voice firm.

“Goodbye, Henry. I’m leaving for school soon.”

Isabella turned and walked away, leaving Henry and Anita alone.

Henry angrily left Isabella behind, with Anita by his side. He stormed into the mansion, seeking his father’s presence.

“Dad, I need to talk to you,” Henry said, his voice firm.

His father, Mr. Thompson, looked up from his papers.

“What’s wrong, son?”

“I want to leave this country,” Henry announced. “I want to go abroad, pursue my master’s degree.”

Anita’s eyes widened in shock. She had expected Henry to declare his love for her or propose marriage, not abandon her.

“What? Henry, why?” Anita stuttered.

Henry ignored Anita, focusing on his father.

“I need a change of environment, Dad. I need to grow and learn more.”

Mr. Thompson nodded thoughtfully.

“I understand, son. We’ll make arrangements immediately.”

Anita’s face fell, her plans crumbling.

“But, Henry, what about us?” Anita asked, her voice trembling.

Henry’s expression turned cold.

“There is no ‘us,’ Anita. I’m leaving alone.”

Anita’s eyes flashed with anger and hurt, but Henry turned and walked away, leaving her behind.

Within two weeks, Henry departed for abroad, leaving Anita and Isabella.

One week later, Alice and Isabella visited the Thompsons, beaming with excitement.

“Mr. and Mrs. Thompson, we’ve come to thank you for your kindness,” Alice said. “We’ve found a beautiful apartment, and we’re moving out.”

Mr. Thompson’s face lit up.

“We’re happy for you, Alice. You deserve it.”

Mrs. Thompson added.

“We’ll miss you, but we’re proud of your independence.”

Mr. Thompson turned to Isabella.

“And, Isabella, we’ll support your education. We’ll train you in university, and I’ll be a father figure to you for life.”

Isabella’s eyes welled up with tears.

“Thank you, sir.”

Alice smiled.

“We’ll never forget your kindness.”

With tears and hugs, they bid farewell to the Thompsons.

FOUR YEARS ON

Four years passed, and Isabella returned as a graduate, visiting the Thompsons to express gratitude. As she entered the mansion, her eyes scanned the rooms, hoping to catch a glimpse of Henry, but she didn’t know he no longer lived there.

Unknown to Isabella, Henry had tried reaching out to her for years but couldn’t, as she had changed her phone number. Similarly, Isabella couldn’t contact Henry, lacking his abroad contact information.

Mr. Thompson welcomed Isabella warmly.

“Isabella, our dear daughter, you’ve made us proud!”

He offered her a job in his company.

“Consider this your homecoming gift.”

Isabella accepted, touched by his kindness.

Unknown to Isabella, Henry holds the position of Managing Director at the company she’s about to join.
