Love’s Bitter Lesson episode 3&4

Title: Love’s Bitter Lesson
Episode 3

Weeks had passed, but the pain in Adanna’s heart still felt fresh. Every morning, she woke up with a heavy chest, struggling to find a reason to keep going. She had lost weight, her once radiant smile now replaced with a distant, empty stare.

Nkem refused to leave her alone. She would visit daily, bringing food, cracking jokes, and forcing her to take short walks outside. One afternoon, Nkem arrived with an idea.

“Adanna, let’s go on a trip,” she said, sitting beside her on the couch.

Adanna frowned. “Trip to where?”

“Anywhere but here. You need a change of environment. You’ve been locked up in this house, drowning in pain. It’s time to breathe again.”

Adanna sighed. “Nkem, I don’t know…”

“Come on, my sister. You need to clear your head. You’re alive! You have your whole life ahead of you. Don’t let that man steal your future too.”

After much persuasion, Adanna agreed. They traveled to a beautiful resort in another city, a place filled with fresh air, sandy beaches, and people who knew nothing about her past.

For the first time in months, Adanna felt a little lighter. She watched the waves crash against the shore, listened to birds chirping, and allowed herself to smile—even if just a little.

One evening, as she walked along the shore alone, she whispered to herself, I deserve to be happy again.

She wasn’t ready for love. She wasn’t sure if she ever would be. But at least, she could try to live.

Adanna returned from the trip feeling a little lighter, but the scars of heartbreak were still there. She had learned to smile again, to wake up without crying, but love? That was a different story.

She poured herself into work, determined to rebuild her life. Every morning, she dressed up, went to the office, and focused on being the best version of herself. If she couldn’t have the love she had once dreamed of, at least she could have success.

One day, as she sat in a café during lunch, a deep voice interrupted her thoughts.

“Excuse me, is this seat taken?”

She looked up and saw a tall, well-dressed man standing in front of her. He had a warm smile and a confident aura.

“No, you can sit,” she said, turning her attention back to her laptop.

The man smiled as he settled in. “I’m Kelechi, by the way.”

She glanced at him briefly. “Adanna.”

“You look focused. Work?”

She nodded.

“Mind if I give you a tip? Take a break sometimes. Life isn’t just about work.”

She raised an eyebrow. “Says the man who is also here alone.”

Kelechi laughed. “You caught me there. But in all seriousness, you should enjoy life too. Smile more.”

Adanna forced a small smile, then returned to her screen.

Kelechi didn’t push. He simply sipped his coffee and scrolled through his phone. But somehow, his presence felt… peaceful.

As Adanna left the café that day, she realized something.

For the first time in a long time, she had talked to a man without feeling pain.

Maybe she wasn’t ready for love. Maybe she never would be.

But for now, she could at least learn to live.
