🐞 Writer’s POV 🐞

Just a couple of hours before the sun finally lits the sky, Michael Ade a young independent journalist and social blogger rides intensely through the less busy streets of Abuja on his bicycle huffing and puffing with each peddling. Every day before getting to work, Michael cycles round for an hour or less as on his bicycle as part of his exercising regimen unlike others who prefer to jog.

By 6:45am, Michael ends his exercise and returns home to get ready for work and shortly after arriving at his premises of his apartment, he meets with his neighbor, Jennifer Chinedu, an attractive gym coach who has an overwhelming obsession over him. Like Michael, Jennifer loves to exercising alot just to keep herself in shape and her lovely physique proves that her hard work had paid off.
.

Jennifer ➑ Cycling Mike, good morning.
.

Michael ➑ Jenny, how far? See as you dey sweat.
.

Jennifer ➑ It’s expected. I see your cycling is paying off. Your thighs are thicker.
.

Michael ➑ I’m glad hearing it from you.
.

Jennifer ➑ You’re welcome. If you would like to come to the gym, I would gladly give you more tips on how to strengthen the lower part of your body.
.

Michael ➑ When I have the time. I’ll branch over.
.

Jennifer ➑ Okay.. Oh by the way, are you free this weekend?
.

Michael ➑ Maybe. What’s up?
.

Jennifer ➑ I have 2 tickets for the new disco that just opened recently.
.

Michael ➑ The All night disco?
.

Jennifer ➑ That’s the one. So are you coming?
.

Michael ➑ I don’t drink.
.

Jennifer ➑ Neither do I.
.

Michael ➑ Okay fine. I’ll go with you.
.

Jennifer ➑ Thanks. Be ready by 8:00pm. Saturday.
.

Michael ➑ Got you.
.

After that, both Michael and Jennifer enter their respective homes to get ready to start the day. Here inside his own apartment, Michael heads straight into his toilet where he takes his bath. After a couple of minutes later, Michael steps out of his toilet and heads straight to the kitchen to make himself some breakfast and whilst he was doing that, his phone rings out loud. Without hesitation, Michael approaches his phone and checks who is calling him. After staring at the number calling him, Michael sighs and then answers the call.
.

Michael ➑ Hello.
.

Jumoh ➑ Aburo. How you dey?
.

Michael ➑ Why you dey disturb me? You no get anything better to do?
.

Jumoh ➑ Relax my guy. How Jennifer? You don knack am yet?
.

Michael ➑ You no well.
.

Jumoh ➑ Mike, why you dey waste time? Why? No be every guy dey get this kind green light from women o. Jennifer dey into you and yet you dey behave like pikin. Seize your opportunity and knack this Igbo beauty.
.

Michael ➑ Na useless werey you be. Abeg Wetin you dey call me for?
.

Jumoh ➑ You no see the latest on your cousin’s ex?
.

Michael ➑ You mean Kevin?
.

Jumoh ➑ Yes now. His in-laws want blood o. Have you seen their online posts about him? It’s too much. You think say he killed his wife?
.

Michael ➑… (Silence)
.

Jumoh ➑ Mike.
.

Michael ➑ Guy, I don’t know.
.

Jumoh ➑ Can’t you help him out? He needs help. People need to know the side of his story. Nobody knows why he killed his wife.
.

Michael ➑ This isn’t my thing and besides I don’t focus my time on such stuffs.
.

Jumoh ➑ Guy, are you kidding? This is news is blowing all over the country. Every news station and news paper is chasing this story. Come on, this is your time to shine. You do this right, you will get the recognition you need.
.

Michael ➑ (sighs) I’ll think about it.
.

Jumoh ➑ Jumoh, just do it man. Remember opportunity comes but once. Odabo. (Ends call)
.

After the call, Mike sighs, drops his phone and then grab his meal and heads straight for his room. Meanwhile here in the late Antonia’s family house in that same hour, her family members assemble to discuss about the measures to take about such matters. Antonia’s sisters who was itching to get payback insisted that they humiliate Kevin before he’s been taken to court.
.

Denise ➑ That bastard must pay. HE MUST PAY FOR WHAT HE DID.
.

Rita ➑ (cries) Oh. My daughter! That man will surely pay for what he was done to my daughter! I will not rest until I get justice for Antonia.
.

Judith ➑ That’s why I never supported her marriage to Kevin. There was no spark at all.
.

Rita ➑ What is that supposed to mean?
.

Judith ➑ What I’m saying is they were never meant to be.
.

Jonathan ➑ Quiet all of you. Denise?
.

Denise ➑ Yes daddy?
.

Jonathan ➑ I want to know exactly what happened? Why would Kevin kill your sister? If there’s anything you know, tell me now.
.

Denise ➑ Daddy, do you really need a reason? That bastard killed your daughter and he must pay for it.
.

Jonathan ➑ SHUT YOUR MOUTH!!! I don’t need you to remind me what I already know. What I would like to know is why my son-in-law killed my daughter. There has to be a reason.
.

Denise ➑ All I know daddy is that Denise called me in the night and told me that Kevin was assaulting her and when I went over to her house in the morning with some police to arrest him, I saw him standing over her dead body.
.

Jonathan ➑ Was he holding any weapon at the time?
.

Denise ➑ No daddy.
.

Jonathan ➑ Was he stained with her blood?
.

Denise ➑ Er.. No daddy.
.

Jonathan ➑ So he was clean?
.

Rita ➑ Darling, why are you asking all these questions? Irrespective of whether he was holding a weapon or not, he killed you daughter.
.

Jonathan ➑ QUIET!!! I don’t want to hear anyone talk unless I tell them to. Now, Kevin and Antonia have had disputes but never have I heard of Kevin putting his hands on Antonia until now which is strange. Denise, did Antonia tell you why Kevin was assaulting her?
.

Denise ➑ No. She only told me that Kevin came home angry without talking to her and when she tried talking to him, he assaulted her, seized her phone, locked her up and left.
.

Rita ➑ You see. He killed our daughter.
.

Jonathan ➑ Woman, I’m angry, very angry and if you don’t shut up, I won’t hesitate to slap the hell out of you. Something fishy went on between Kevin and Antonia and she lied to you about it. I want to know what that is and until I know what it, Antonia’s murderer is in the wind.
.

Denise ➑ Daddy, how can you say that? This man killed your daughter.
.

Jonathan ➑ Did you see him kill her?
.

Denise ➑ No but..
.

Jonathan ➑ Enough. You saw Kevin standing over your sister’s body without any weapon or blood stain on his person. I’m more angry than any of you but I won’t let my anger blind me from knowing the truth. I’m going to find out the reason behind Antonia’s death and if Kevin is guilty, he’s going to pay dearly for the rest of his life. In the meantime Denise, I want you to stop publicizing this matter until we find out the truth and if it turns out we’re wrong, you’d only be making fool of our family.
.

Denise ➑ But daddy.
.

Jonathan ➑ No buts… JUST DO IT.
.

Shortly after that statement, Jonathan and his family received a visitor in the form of Det. Andrew. After sensing the presence of the detective, everyone in the house behaves themselves calmly waiting to hear why and what the detective has to say.
.

Andrew ➑ Good morning everyone.
.

Jonathan ➑ Good morning young man! May I ask who you are?
.

Andrew ➑ I’m Det. Andrew and I would like to question one of your daughters who was at the scene of the crime. Is Denise here?
.

Denise ➑ Yes! I’m the one.
.

Andrew ➑ Okay Denise. I won’t take long. Just want to ask you a few things.
.

Denise ➑ Sure.
.

Andrew ➑ Well, according to the statement you gave, you said the suspect took your sister’s phone and left, but somehow she called you. Care to explain?
.

Denise ➑ Antonia has her own personal phone.
.

Andrew ➑ Alright. Were you in anyway aware of your sister’s infidelity?
.

Jonathan ➑ What?
.

Rita ➑ Infidelity?? Is that what that liar is sticking on to?
.

Jonathan ➑ Shut up woman. Detective.. What are you talking about?
.

Andrew ➑ Well sir, According to what the suspect said, your daughter has been cheating on him since they got married.
.

Jonathan ➑ This is absurd. Why didn’t he report it if he knew?
.

Andrew ➑ Well, he found out about it a couple of nights ago while he was at work.
.

Judith ➑ This is crazy. Does he have any evidence to back this up?
.

Andrew ➑ Actually, there is. The package your son-in-law got had pictures, and DNA test results which we all confirmed to be legit. The deceased was indeed cheating. Her lover too was found dead in his own home, brutally murdered.
.

Jonathan ➑ What DNA tests results are you talking about?
.

Andrew ➑ Well apparently, your son-in-law isn’t the father of your grandkids. They belong to her lovers.
.

Jonathan ➑ Jesus Christ!!! What am I hearing?
.

Rita ➑ It can’t be so. It has to be made up.
.

Andrew ➑ I’m sorry Madam but it’s all true.
.

Jonathan ➑ So this is why Kevin killed my daughter?
.

Andrew ➑ That’s the strange thing sir. We’re not sure if he’s the one. We found nothing on him that shows that he’s the killer.
.

Jonathan ➑ So he’s not the killer?
.

Andrew ➑ Probably but that’s what I’m trying to find out.
.

Denise ➑ But he was there. I saw him.
.

Andrew ➑ Did you see him kill her?
.

Denise ➑ No but..
.

Andrew ➑ That’s enough. Thank you for your time. I’ll be taking my leave.
.

After that statement, Andrew takes his leave leaving everyone in the room shocked and speechless. Shortly after Andrew left the house, Jonathan slowly rises from the sofa and walks away slowly leaving his wife and daughters in the living room.

🐞 MICHAEL 🐞

People don’t really read the news nor do they have interest in it. The only thing that forces them to read is the headline. The headline is all that matters. Most of the people don’t really care about what really happened cause some of they have no idea that not everything they read is true. The true stories are never really written or reported but this time around the case is different.

Presently, here I was at work trying to do my thing as usual which was finding a good story to write on and whilst I was doing that, my cousin Kate showed up at my place. It’s been a while since we met and seeing her unexpectedly just made me wonder why she came here.
.

Kate ➑ Morning Mike.
.

Michael ➑ Morning Kate.
.

Kate ➑ It’s been a while.
.

Michael ➑ Yes.
.

Kate ➑ Do you have a min?
.

Michael ➑ Sure.
.

Kate ➑ I need your help with something.
.

Michael ➑ What is it?
.

Kate ➑ I’m sure you heard what happened to Kevin.
.

Michael ➑ Jesus Kate! Really?
.

Kate ➑ What?
.

Michael ➑ Why can’t you get over that guy? He broke your heart remember? You need to stay away from him. He’s dangerous.
.

Kate ➑ He’s innocent.
.

Michael ➑ And how do you know?
.

Kate ➑ He and I met the night before the incident and told me what his wife did to him. She cheated on him Mike.
.

Michael ➑ So? He could be lying.
.

Kate ➑ No he’s not and he’s not the killer. He came to my house clean.
.

Michael ➑ What? He came to your house.
.

Kate ➑ Yes.
.

Michael ➑ Oh.. Please don’t tell me you slept with him?
.

Kate ➑ (silence)
.

Michael ➑ Jesus Kate!!! Are you out of your mind? Do you even realize the mess you’ve gotten yourself into? You could be considered as an accomplice.
.

Kate ➑ Well, I can’t be charged if there’s no evidence on me.
.

Michael ➑ Why are you so calm about this? Hold on.. Did you have anything to do with this?
.

Kate ➑ Oh I wish I did but no.
.

Michael ➑ God, you women are no sense at all. So you risk your safety just to get dicked by your Ex.
.

Kate ➑ Enough talk Mike. I need your help. Kevin is innocent. You need to help him.
.

Michael ➑ And why should I?
.

Kate ➑ I’m telling you, he’s innocent. He spent the night in my house. There’s no way he’s the killer. He’s not that type of person.
.

Michael ➑ The evil minded don’t have appearances and even if I were to agree to help you, I still need materials to show that Kevin is innocent. Without that, I can’t do anything.
.

Kate ➑ What? Are you serious right now?
.

Michael ➑ Yes. I can’t just write and post something without getting legit source. People will start asking about where I got my story and if I can’t provide evidence, I might get arrested for slander.
.

Kate ➑ Damn it.
.

Michael ➑ I’m sorry Kate.
.

Kate ➑ I won’t want Kevin to go to prison because of this.
.

Michael ➑ Why are you putting your neck out for this guy?
.

Kate ➑ You wouldn’t understand considering you’ve been in a serious relationship.
.

Michael ➑ Oh I do and I also know that not everything is meant to be.
.

Kate ➑ Or maybe it isn’t yet time. Kevin still has feelings for me and now I have a chance to reclaim what is rightfully mine.
.

Michael ➑ (sighs) Good luck. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have work to do.
.

Kate ➑ Have a good day.
.

After that, Kate left and as soon as she was gone, I began to have suspicions about her wondering if perhaps she might have had something to do with it. In that moment as I was deep in thought, one of my colleagues appears before me with a package and a note in hand.
.

Ibrahim ➑ Mike, how far?
.

Michael ➑ Ibro, I dey o. Wetin sup?
.

Ibrahim ➑ Na one guy give me this package make I give you and this note make I give you.
.

Michael ➑ Who be the guy?
.

Ibrahim ➑ I no know am.
.

Michael ➑ Okay thanks.
.

After thanking Ibrahim, I collected the note and package which I stared at curiously for a while before reading the note which says :-

* This is everything you need to reveal the truth about what happened, I trust you will do the right thing*

After reading the note, I opened the package and saw a bunch of photos that left me shocked and speechless. After staring at the photos one by one, I placed them back inside the package and then placed my hands over my head still overwhelmed with shock. After a long moment of silence, I sighed and then thought about what Kate said to me after which I murmured the word * Damn *.
