I DIDN’T KILL BAAMI
Episode 9
I got to the hospital only to me mama and Bisola’s husband looking really gloomy.
“”What’s happening here?”. I asked.
“Why did you take so long. Bisola woke up and was calling your name.” Mama answered.
“Really? where is she now?”
“She went into Coma again but the doctor said that she will be up soon.”
I was really scared. Bisola has been through alot. She’s really strong to have survived all these.
“What’s was Baami’s reaction when you told him mu wife is dead”, Bisola’s husband asked me.
“Can you imagine that that evil man didn’t even feel bad one bit. He deserves a slow painful death.”
“Absolutely. I feel like squeezing the little life out of him” Bisola’s husband said.
“Kemi, You know Baami is not the only one involved in all these.”
“What do you mean, mama?” I asked.
“We’ll talk about that better when we leave this hospital.”
“Mama, I’m sorry I told Baami that I have seen you. I couldn’t hold back my anger. In fact, he must be dead by now”. I said.
“What!!”. Mama and Bisola’s husband chorused.
“Wha. tt did you do, Kemi?”.
“Don’t tell me it’s what I’m thinking?”. Mama said, with her Two hands on her head.
“I don’t understand mama. What are you thinking?”
“”You killed Baami?”. She asked with her eyes wide open.
“Ahaah. Rara o. Ma…ma.. ho..ww ca..ann.. I mean, noo”
I began to stammer. Should I tell her about the rope I tied round the statue?
“Kemi what have you done. Hope it’s not what I’m thinking”.
“No mama. I didn’t kill Baami. How can I”. I don’t understand why mama is acting like this.
Bisola’s husband seemed confused.
“But mama, that man deserves to die. If Kemi had the opportunity to kill him, why won’t she do it?”. He asked my mother.
“You won’t understand. Like I said, he’s not the only one in this. I never knew that my husband’s family were involved in all these, I wouldn’t have married him.”
“What are you saying, mama?”. I’m just so impatient.
“There is still Oloye, Oba Kabiru and Iya Kasali. Those three should be dead by now but they keep living by the blood of all the grandchildren being sacrificed. If you notice in the family, there are lots of old people than young ones.”
“But mama, I don’t know these people you just called.”
“Hmm.” Mama sighed. “You don’t know them but they know you. They are like the keepers of the altar. I don’t really know much but this family ritual started a long time ago. If you refuse to give in, they kill you.”
“That was why they killed papa?”.
“Yes.” Mama replied.
“But mama, something has to be done. What about we invite a pastor to come and pray or something.”
“Which pastor?”. I asked in sarcasm. “The ones that come to Baami for help or which ones. That’s why I have never stepped my foot into any church.”
“You mean, pastor’s come to Baami?”. Bisola’s husband asked.
He wasn’t aware too.
“Many of them brought babies which we pounded in mortal to prepare charm for them.”
“This is the height of it. But mama, I’m not a Christian o but I use to go to church and I know that not all of them are the same. I know of a pastor who can help us. In fact, we need family deliverance.”
“You’re right. Not all are involved into these fetish things.Ok, please call him. As soon as Bisola is discharged, he’s following to the house.” Mama agreed.
*******************************
Bisola finally regained consciousness the next day. She cried so much when we told her the truth about how Baami had held us in bondage and made mama mad.
She kept apologizing to her husband for the death of their three children.
“It’s not your fault. He had you under control but it has ended today. Pastor KC here is going to hold a prayer in our house today. I’ll go clear the bills and we’ll leave”.
We got to the house and saw trails of blood round the house and some chicken feathers.
I rushed into the house and couldn’t find Baami. I only saw the red rope I had used to tie the statue. Baami wasn’t here.
“Kemi, where is he?”. Mama asked.
“I left him here yesterday. In fact he’s supposed to be lying dead here.”
“Dead nibo? You said you didn’t kill him. What are you talking about?”. Mama asked as we Searched around the house.
“Ehhh… ma..ma I just tied a red rope to one of the statue I found in that room. See the rope na. Something is not right mama.”
I rushed into the room and met that cupboard, wide open. All the statues were gone. All.”
“Egbami!!”. I screamed.
“Mama, we’re dead. The images he used to contact our spirit, the statue….”
“Ehen, what about them?”.
“They’re not in that room. ”
“Kemi, If you didn’t kill Baami, where is he?”.
“Mama, will I lie to youu…” I replied in tears.
Bisola’s husband stood up and asked mama..”why are you worried that he is dead. Don’t you want him dead?”.
“If Kemi killed him, then Oloye, Oba Kabiru and Iya Kasali were here. They must have carried his corpse and they will be back to take Kemi’s life.” Mama replied and burst out in tears.
“I don’t want to loose my child”.
“I sense something in my spirit. You people will vacate this house for the mean time.” Pastor KC said.
“I sense some spirit hovering around. Whoever that Baami is, he’s not dead.”
“Ahhh Mogbe o. Kemi we’re doomed.”
“Mama, God will deliver your family. The battle line has just been drawn. One thing is sure, he knows his end is near. Let us pray…”
The end…
