Ex-boyfriend Episode Nine
Love sometimes makes someone to behave like a foolish person. Love makes someone to take foolish decisions. Love also makes someone to be confused. Sometimes, it is the person you love who hurt you the most. This is what is happening to Linda. She has taken a hit from Chima, but she was not prepared to give up on him. She was prepared to swim and die with him no matter what happens.
“No matter what he did to me, I’m still going to forgive him. I can’t imagine not being with Chima. My heart is permanently with him. No matter some of the bad things he usually says to me, I will still go back to him and be his wife. He is a good man. I’m so glad he has found a job. Now there are no more excuses he could use to push me away. I find myself permanently attached to him and there is nothing I can do than to accept him back.” Linda said. She has been weeping since she received the text message from Chima.
“He is a good man. It is just that lack of money makes him talk anyhow. I will go back to him and marry him. He is just proud and he did not want to trade his pride as a man for anything. This is why he did not allow me to use my own money to sponsor our wedding. I think he is a truthful man. He has been frank with me all these while, but I could not believe my ears when he told me he was not the one who got me pregnant. That sounded like a bomb and it broke my heart greatly. But there is nothing I can do than to go back to him since I’m perpetually in love with him. I will go to his house this evening and hug him, because I miss him so much.” Linda said while holding a pillow as if that was Chima. She was still in Kele’s house.
“But what am I going to tell Kele? How is he going to react to the news? What is he going to say when I tell him that the baby in my womb is actually not his own? I’m in hot okra soup right now and this is a very difficult problem for me to handle. After telling Kele that I’m pregnant for him, I’m now forced to tell him that the baby is not his own. Chima has pushed me into a difficult corner, but I will try to come out. It is better to say the truth than for me to marry a man I’m not happy with it.” Linda said tearfully. Since she arrived at Kele’s house in the morning, she has not eaten anything. She had found time to sleep, but when she woke up, she started feeling hungry. She went to the kitchen to make food for herself and then came out into the living room to continue crying.
“I think I should call Chima to come here. He will be here while I’m making the confession to Kele. He created this problem. He was the one who made me to tell Kele I was pregnant for him in the first place. He is going to be here when I will make the confession. I will not be the only one to bear the shame. He will be here and he must be prepared to defend me if push comes to a shove.” Linda said. She picked up her phone and called Chima.
“I’m so happy to hear that you got the job. This is the best news I have received today. I’m also glad you have finally decided to marry me. It is also a good thing you have accepted the pregnancy as yours. Please, I’m not at home, and I would like you to meet me somewhere for us to celebrate these achievements. We will celebrate the fact that you got the job and we are about to get married. We will also celebrate the fact that we are about to become parents. We have a lot to celebrate and to be happy for. Please, I’m sending you an address. Do well to meet me there in the evening. Come at the exact time I will text you. Do not fail. This celebration is very important to me.” Linda said to Chima over the phone.
Linda stood up and took her bath. She cleaned herself up and changed her dress. She also applied make up to her face. She prepared herself for the return of Kele. She knew the exact time he usually comes back from work and that was the time she asked Chima to come to the house.
At about 6pm, the front door of the house opened. Linda looked and saw that it was Kele.
“Welcome home my darling! How was work today? I hope it was not too stressful for you?” About 30 minutes later, someone knocked at the front door.
“I’m not expecting anyone. Who could that be? Are you expecting someone?” Kele asked Linda. He wanted to go and open the door for the person, but Linda told him to allow her do it.
“Please, come and sit down and rest. You are just coming back from work. Let me go and open the door for the person.” Linda said. When she opened the door, she saw Chima standing at the door step.
“Welcome, please come in.” Linda said.
As soon as Chima stepped into the living room, Kele recognized him. He remembered him as the same man he saw in Linda’s bed some weeks ago. Kele stood up in anger and started questioning Linda.
“What is he doing here? What is this young man doing in my house?” Kele asked with a loud voice.
“Calm down Kele. Please, sit down, there is something I would like to tell you.” Linda said. Chima was confused and scared.
“Why did you call me to come here?” Chima asked Linda with surprise all over his face.
“Calm down! There is something you have to hear.” Linda said to Chima. Chima and Kele sat down to listen to Linda.
“Kele, when I told in the morning that I’m pregnant, I didn’t tell you the full story. The pregnancy is not yours. It belongs to this man sitting here. He was the one who got me pregnant, and not you.” Linda said. She waited a while to see how Kele would react.
