Ex-boyfriend Episode Ten
Linda was expecting war from Kele after she mentioned that he was not the one who got her pregnant. She expected him to bring hot water and use it to bath her or Chima. She expected a lot of negative reactions from him. What a man would hear that his fiancé got pregnant for another man and he wouldn’t react in a negative way? Linda knew there was fire on the mountain and she had prepared her heart to receive the heat. She knew the consequences of what she was going to say before she said it. She knew it would be hurting to Kele and if he decides to react in a negative way, she was prepared to take it. That was why she called Chima to be present so that if push comes to a shove, he would at least help to put ice water on the fire that might burn. She was really prepared for the backlash.
“I know you might want to react negatively but it is best that I told you the truth instead of deceiving you and giving you a baby that does not belong to you. I have considered it carefully and concluded that you are a good man. It is a bad thing if I pin another man’s baby on you. Look, Kele, the truth is that I didn’t really love you that much. I was just going to marry you out of pity and it is not good. I gave it a lot of thought and decided to go with the man who my heart truly accepts.” Linda said with tears in her eyes. Both Kele and Chima were looking at her with keen attention.
“Over the past few weeks, I have considered it carefully and decided that I don’t love you enough to marry you. My love for you is not strong enough to carry our marriage. It will collapse. I know this may be coming a little too late but the truth is that it took me just one visit to my ex-boyfriend for me to realize what my heart really wants. I concluded that it is better for us to break up now than for us to get a divorce after marriage. If I had married you, I’m sure would get a divorce because I would have hated you. I’m so sorry Kele, please, move on and forgive me.” Linda said. She was still crying. A lot of tears were dropping from her eyes.
“You remember the day I told you I was going to visit a family member to give them our wedding invitation card? Well, it was Chima that I visited. After I visited him that day, I could not take him off my mind. We started seeing each other more often such that we started making love. That was how I got pregnant for him. I thought I could pin it on you but Chima has accepted the pregnancy, because the truth is that it does not belong to you. If you can remember very well, you will know that I and you have not played football since the past two months or so. Please, find a place in your heart and forgive me. If I get married to you, I will be miserable. I will not be happy. I’m happier with Chima and I beg you to let me marry him.” Linda said. When she was done talking, she expected Kele to jump on her, slap her or do something negative to Chima. She knew she messed up and she was fully ready to pay the price.
However, what happened was not what she expected. Kele appeared to have known all along that Linda had changed. He observed the change and also changed his own plan. He too did not put all his eggs in one basket. Kele is an intelligent lawyer and there was no way she was going to allow Linda to play a fast one on him. On the day he saw Chima in Linda’s bed, he decided to take one of his relationships seriously. In fact, he had done his research about Linda’s relationship with Chima and found out they were dating while in school and that their love firewood was catching fire again. He decided he was not going to marry Linda. It would be dangerous to marry a woman who still had her eyes on her ex. Even when Linda announced the pregnancy, he knew it did not belong to him. He accepted the pregnancy, but his intention was to take another woman for marriage. He had planned to embarrass Linda greatly. In fact, he had a different date fix for his marriage with his office secretly who he fell in love with. So, he was not bothered by all the confessions Linda was making.
Before Kele spoke, Chima decided to say something to douse the tension in the air. He did not want things to get out of hand. He decided it was best for him to join in begging Kele. Of a truth, he considered himself an intruder even though he was the one who first fell in love with Linda. He knew it was not good for him to sneak back into her life when she was already planning a wedding with another man.
“Mr Kele please, forgive her. Please forgive me too for coming back into her life at the wrong time. I was never meant to come back, but it is like we were really meant to get married. In fact, it was poverty that made me to leave her. I would never have left her. I would have married her immediately we finished our first degrees. Now that I have found a job, I decided to marry her and to also accept the baby. It would have been cruel if she had pinned my baby on you. I thank God she did not do that because you would have ended up raising another man’s child.” Chima said.
Kele finally spoke after hearing from Chima and Linda. His words shocked Linda because that was never what she expected.
“Well, the truth is that I’m not bothered. I have also made my own plans. I have another girl who you don’t know. She is my secretary at the office. I have been dating her for a long time. The reason I was leaving her to marry you was because she is not a graduate. She has every other thing a man would need in a woman. She is respectful and beautiful as well. I love her so much. I had broken up with her and started planning a wedding with you. She did do anything wrong. However, after I saw Chima in your bed, I decided I was not going to marry you again. I decided to go back to her. In fact, your confession has saved you from a huge embarrassment. My plan is that on the wedding day, you would not have seen me. I would have disappeared after getting married to my secretary. But all the same, it is better that we are going our separate ways. I’m not sad, because I have found my happiness in the arms of another woman. I wish you two well.” Kele said as he opens the door and asked Linda and Chima to leave his house.
Chima and Linda got married and were happy ever after. Kele also got married to his secretary and were happy ever after.
