Diary of a single mother 5

The next morning, I got discharged from the hospital.

Frank never bothered to come see me in the hospital.

My parents were a little bit calm, so they took me home and summoned Frank’s parents.

Few hours later, Frank came to my house with his parents.

After kolanuts was broken and other pleasantries exchanged, my father cleared his throat and spoke;

“The deed has been done my people. These children acted outside what we taught them. In my village, it’s forbidden for a woman to give birth in her father’s house. My daughter cannot be the first to do it”

He passed for some moments and whispered something into my mother’s ears. He continued.

“Chinyere needs to move in with you people. Your son should finish what he started”. My father said in finality.

Frank was seated grumbling. He wasn’t happy with the decision.

“Why should she stay with us? My son is too young abeg abeg”. Frank mom said in protest.

Frank’s father beckoned on his wife to keep calm. He cleared his throat and spoke

“There’s is nothing else to take than for my family to take responsibility for what my son has done. Chinyere can live with us till she has the baby”.

I sat down watching both families, haggling about where I should live.

Left for me, I would love to remain with my family but I don’t obviously have a say in any of these.

When the meeting was done, with tears in my eyes, I followed Frank and his family home.

That was the turning point of my life.
