AGAINST ALL ODDS
FINAL EPISODE
“I hereby announce my final verdict,” the judge said, his voice firm and clear. “Emmanuel, you are found not guilty. I hereby discharge and acquit you.”
I couldn’t believe my ears. I jumped up and down in joy, tears of happiness streaming down my face. I rushed over to Sarah and hugged her tightly, spinning her around in a circle.
“Thank you, thank you!” I exclaimed, my voice hoarse with emotion.
Sarah laughed and hugged me back, tears in her own eyes. “I knew you were innocent, Emmanuel,” she said. “I’m so glad justice has been served.”
I looked over at Michael and his friend, who were being led away in handcuffs. They had been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment, and I couldn’t help but feel a sense of satisfaction. They had gotten what they deserved.
As I hugged Sarah again, I felt a sense of freedom wash over me. I was finally free, finally clear of the charges that had haunted me for so long.
“Thank you, Sarah,” I said again, my voice filled with gratitude. “I don’t know what I would have done without you.”
Sarah smiled and patted me on the back. “You’re welcome, Emmanuel,” she said. “Now let’s get out of here and start your new life.”
I nodded, still grinning from ear to ear. I was ready to start fresh, ready to leave the past behind and move on to bigger and better things.
As we walked out of the courtroom, I felt a sense of hope that I hadn’t felt in years. I knew that I still had a long way to go, but for the first time in a long time, I felt like I was walking in the right direction.
But I have one problem, I thought to myself. I had nowhere to go, I didn’t even have anything with me. Where will I go from here?
It was as if Sarah read my thoughts. “Emmanuel, I know you’re happy to be free, but do you have anywhere to go?” she asked, concern etched on her face.
I shook my head, feeling a pang of uncertainty.
“Well, you can’t stay on the streets,” she said. “Why don’t you come with me to my place and stay for a while? You can get your life back on track, and then figure out what to do next.”
I was taken aback by her generosity. No one had ever offered me such kindness before.
“Really?” I asked, my voice filled with gratitude. “You’d do that for me?”
Sarah smiled. “Of course, Emmanuel. I believe in second chances.”
I couldn’t thank her enough. I went home with her, feeling like the luckiest person alive.
Days turned into weeks, and I found myself growing fond of Sarah. She was kind, caring, and beautiful. And I could tell she felt the same way about me.
We spent our days exploring the city, laughing together, and getting to know each other. I had never felt happier.
As the weeks turned into months, I realized that I had fallen in love with Sarah. And I could tell she felt the same way.
One day, as we sat on the couch watching the sunset, Sarah turned to me and smiled.
“Emmanuel, I’m so glad I met you,” she said. “You’re an amazing person.”
I smiled back, my heart full of love. “I’m glad I met you too, Sarah. I don’t know what I would do without you.”
And with that, I knew that I had found my soulmate.
One day, Sarah came back from work beaming with joy. I was surprised to see her so happy, and I asked her what was behind her smile.
“I have good news for you, Emmanuel,” she said, barely containing her excitement.
I leaned in, curious. “What is it?”
“The judge called me today,” she said. “He asked about you, and I told him about your situation. He wants to see you.”
I was taken aback. “The judge? Why does he want to see me?”
Sarah’s smile grew wider. “It turns out that the judge was your former lecturer in the university. He remembered you and wants to help.”
I couldn’t believe it. My former lecturer was now a judge? Life was full of surprises.
But I didn’t have time to dwell on that. The next morning, Sarah helped me prepare for my meeting with the judge. She made sure I looked as smart as possible, and then took me to the bus stop.
“Okay, Emmanuel, this is where you get off,” she said, pointing to a bus. “Just ask for the judge’s office when you get there. He’s expecting you.”
I nodded, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. I hugged Sarah goodbye and boarded the bus.
As the bus drove away, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for Sarah’s help. She had been my rock throughout this ordeal, and I didn’t know what I would do without her.
I took a deep breath and focused on the road ahead. I had no idea what the judge had planned for me, but I was ready to face whatever came next.
As I walked into the judge’s office, I had a clear view of his face And then it hit me – I knew him from my university days! He was my lecturer, But how come he’s here and a judge , well anything can be possible in nigeria , i sat down and waited for him
The judge got straight to the point, asking for my credentials. I handed them over, and he nodded in approval as he scanned them.
“I’d like you to work for me,” he said, looking up at me with a serious expression. “You’re a tech guru, and I saw what you did with Michael. I need someone with your skills for my new company ,The job comes with a house, an official car, and a huge salary?
I was speechless. A house, an official car, and a huge salary? It was too good to be true.
But the judge’s voice brought me back to reality. “Do you accept or not?” he asked, his eyes piercing.
I nodded eagerly. “Of course, sir. It’s an honor to work for you.”
The judge smiled, and we shook hands. “Alright then, come back here on Monday morning, and we’ll kick off from there.”
I left his office in a daze, tears of joy streaming down my face. I thought about my family and how this new job would change our lives for the better.
I knelt on the road, thanking God for this turn of events. Passersby stared at me, but I didn’t care. I was too happy.
I stood up, dusted myself off, and hailed a cab. I couldn’t wait to tell Sarah the good news. She had been a blessing to me, and I knew she would be thrilled.
As I rode home, I couldn’t help but think about how far I’d come. From being accused of a crime I didn’t commit to landing my dream job – it was a journey I would never forget.
The end ……
Moral lesson: Never give up, stay positive, and be open to new opportunities, as life can change for the better when you least expect it.
