Brought Out Of Thorns
Chapter 2
The next morning, I woke up to continue my journey. I was a boy who had no idea of where he was going. All I did was walk, hoping to find someone who will help me.
It was at that moment I bumped into Ola . Ola was a friend I had met in church. He saw me carrying my bag and walked up to me.
He knew about Aunty Akemi and her wickedness towards me. Ola was older than me. He was twenty five, but looked like twenty. This was because of his rather small structure.
“Ken, where are you going with your bag?” He asked. ” Why are you crying? Your eyes look swollen. You look rough. What is wrong?” He asked inquisitively.
From my mood and facial expression, Ola understood that all was not well. He knew there was a problem. I bent my head to the floor and stood in silence. All I did was sob.
All I did was regret why my parents had to die. All I did was regret coming to Lagos to stay with Aunty Akemi.
“She sent me away.” I muttered faintly. Ola sighed. Ola pulled closer to me and embraced me. It was a very comforting hug.
“It’s okay. Stop crying. I understand.” He said.
“I said, stop crying. Let’s go to my place.” He beckoned.
When we got to Ola’s place that afternoon, Ola gave me food to eat and showed me my room.
“This is your own room as of today. Be free to ask for anything you want. All hope is not gone yet. She sent you away, but God has not abandoned you.”
I was so happy and thankful to Ola. He was a helper. A friend whose bond with me was not even a strong one. But yet he had come to my rescue. From that very day, I started staying with Ola.
One evening, Ola came back and announced to me that he had found me a good job. It was a factory work. I was amazed when he broke this shocking news to me.
“I know you are going to like the work.” He said.
“I will be glad if the manager accepts me.” I heaved a sigh.
“Ken don’t worry yourself. Tomorrow we will go to the place. Just pray you get the job.” He assured me.
That night my heart was filled with so much thought.
I had a sleepless night all through. All I did was stare at the ceiling and blink like a cat. The next morning, Ola walked into my room and told me to get prepared. He announced that we would have to be at the factory in time to meet the manager in charge.
That morning, we arrived at the factory and was directed to the manager’s office. We greeted him in unison as Ola introduced me to him.
“Sir, this is Ken, my friend. The one I told you about. Ken met the manager, Mr. Ade.” he said.
“Ken. You’re welcome. Please sit down.” He pointed to a chair
“Thank you sir.” I replied with confidence. Though, this was my first time that I was going to work in a factory, all through my life I haven’t worked for an organisation before.
I was filled with so much hope and expectation. I was very happy and full of Joy in my heart as the manager talked with me. He asked me some questions and I responded positively.
Later that day, after our interview. He asked me to start work the following day and I was so excited.
“Congratulations Ken, the Lord is your strength.” He said as he took my hand for a handshake.
“Sir, I am really grateful for your offer. In Fact, I am short of words.” I kept smiling like I was on a pack of a cabin biscuit. There was this great joy in me. I felt it raining in my heart like an ocean.
I thanked the manager. I was full with excitement.
When we got home that day, I thanked Ola for everything he had done for me.
“Ola, I don’t know how or where to begin. I owe you a lot. You have done so much for me. You picked me up from the streets and gave me shelter. You fed me without even complaining. And now you found me a Job. Thank you so much Ola.” I said with my eyes fixed to his eyes. Tears of joy drop down my cheeks in rivulets.
Ola placed his hand on my shoulder.
“Ken, what are friends for? You would have done the same for me if you had the opportunity to. You would have saved me too if you had found me on the streets. Helping you is what I should do as a friend. When the world rejects you, God will never abandon you. God only used me to bless you. He alone deserves the praise.” He replied excitedly.
That day marked a new chapter in my life, I knew God was about to begin a new thing in my life. One thing I love to do more is to have confidence and faith in God. Man can disappoint at any time, God never can disappoint us. He meets us at the point of our needs and grants us our desires.
To be continued.
