Life imprisonment Episode 25

LIFE IMPRISONMENT 25

WRITTEN BY: GRACE OLAYEMI

“Please, Danger, don’t make this harder than it already is,” Chief Morris said from the other end of the line.

He had received a report about Danger’s lack of co-operation with the lawyer and he knew that if Danger should keep that up, the police might be forced to investigate ruthlessly and that might leave them exposed. They had been careful in all their dealings with Danger and had never left a loose end but still, there was no crime in being careful.

“So, you want me to tell him everything?” Danger asked cunningly and when Chief Morris could not respond he laughed.

“Tell him things that are not related to the party,” the party leader said and Danger knew they must be together at the party house.

“Most of the things I did are related to the party and you all know it.”

“This lawyer is our boy. You can trust him and answer all his question,” Chief Donald said and they didn’t all agree with him.

Some believed it was unwise to trust Abraham with too many details about the party because his loyalty had not been proven yet. While others felt there was no crime in entrusting their dirty details in the hands of the one that had the legal intelligence to defend them.

“If he is not open with him, how do you expect him to defend him successfully?”

“Let him defend him with whatever details he has already.”

“How sure are you that the Prosecuting Counsel does not have strong evidence against him? What if he gets to the court and then the Prosecuting Counsel brings it up? How will he defend him?”

“That’s true, but our dealings with him are not opened enough to be discovered by any Prosecuting Counsel.”

“You can’t be so sure about that.”

They continued to go back and forth and Danger smiled to himself. If only they knew that he had more than enough evidence to pull them down with him.

“Just co-operate with the lawyer. But be very discreet about it. Tell him everything that is necessary to vindicate you.”

“I can’t co-operate with him yet. I don’t like his demeanour and he looks like a very cunning person and I can’t trust him.”

Danger remembered the look on Abraham’s face when he talked with him and he was sure beyond any iota of doubt that there was something off about him.

“Let him prove himself worthy first then I can consider trusting him afterwards.”

The call ended and Danger sighed. One of the privileges he enjoyed in the cell was the ceaseless calls from his sponsors. He was also given good food and a comfortable bed had been placed in his cell. Though, the SP was not a very friendly person, he knew his sponsors must have tipped some of the guards or the other officers so he could enjoy those privileges.
