My wife my Nemesis episode 18

MY WIFE, MY NEMESIS
CHAPTER 18

As an early riser that I was, I was certain I woke up early but when I got downstairs, there were no traces of my husband in the mansion. His car was not in the parking lot so I knew he’d driven out.

“Did he tell you where he was going to?” I’d blurted out the question to Kate before I realized I was grilling the wrong person.

Darlington would never inform the housekeepers of where he was going. I dismissed Kate and went to the dinning hall. I’d asked the cook to warm up the rice my husband had prepared for me the previous day. I couldn’t eat it before going to bed last night. And I didn’t want his efforts to be wasted.

“Awwn!” I blushed and giggled like a teenager whose crush just waved at her, as I dished out the rice and fresh fish stew. But the giggling didn’t last for so long. I squeezed my face as I took one spoonful of rice mixed with a bit of stew.

“Oh, my husband! What a cook you are!” I groaned and then smiled. I didn’t know whether it was the stew that was salty or the rice. It was salty but I ensured I ate everything. That was a token of my appreciation. I found his act of cooking for me so adorable.

I finished eating and went to the living room to watch TV and waited for the return of my husband to no avail. The house felt so empty and I became so bored. Then, I remembered I was yet to complete my treatment at Lanre’s hospital so I got dressed and went there.

“Hey, angel! You’re here.” Lanre warmly expressed his excitement to see me with a bear hug, as I stepped into his office.

“Oh yeah, I am. How are you doing?” I inquired after i freed myself from his hug. He smiled brightly.

“I’ve been cool, but seeing your special, beautiful face right now… I’m feeling so great.” He replied me and I laughed.

“Hmm, you and your ways of flattering someone ehn. Well, I’m pleased to know you’re feeling great now. I’m feeling great as well. So, I’ve come for my treatment.” I informed him after the exchange of pleasantries.

“You just have one dose of injection left to complete your treatment. I will administer that to you here and we can go out to relax and eat lunch when I finish my round. How do you see that?” He asked me sweetly. I nodded in appreciation.

“It’s a brilliant idea.” I concurred and he went out to finish his round, while I took a seat to wait patiently for his return. He got back after many minutes, and he administered the injection to me. Then, we set out.

We’d just gotten to the relaxation center and alighted from Lanre’s car when a luxury car rushed in and hit the parked car from behind, loudly. Lanre and I were getting ready to lash out at the rash driver when a very familiar someone stepped out of the car and we were rendered speechless. I hated to admit it but the person looked dazzling and elegant in his casual white round neck top, a pair of black joggers and black chic sneakers to match.

He removed his dark sunglasses and my heart nearly jumped out from my chest. I was shocked and excited at the same time. It was Darlington, my husband.

“Lanre? It’s you? So, you’re the one that’s been dragging my wife’s attention with me? How dare you? You’ve gotten so brave, I must commend. You’ve become very gutsy. It really shouldn’t have been you. Is that because of this rusty metal you’re carrying around in the name of a car? Well, let me burst your bubble, you’re going to regret doing this. You’re going to regret going after my wife.” Darlington sneered at Lanre, while still trying to keep his cool, he was keeping his voice low, and that earned him respect from me.

I was glad he was trying very hard not to disgrace himself in a public place even though he was very pissed off. I tried to step forward to calm him down but Lanre noticed my movement and dragged me behind him. He spoke up before I could speak.

“Your wife? You dare call her your wife? Someone you have no regards for? Someone whom you assault as you wish? Someone you do not care about? This woman is not your wife, we all know that because you’ve not been treating her like your wife, so why are you still monitoring her movements? Why can’t you just leave her alone so she can seek for the happiness she deserves? You think just because you’re rich and handsome, you can keep any woman hostage? No, Darlington, the world doesn’t revolve around you.” Lanre sneered back at him in response and Darlington gritted angrily. I knew I needed to intervene before things would get out of hands.

“Erm… Darlington, it’s not what you think. Let’s sort out this misunderstanding amicably.” I announced to the two men and they both looked at me like I was out of my mind. I knew my words carried no weight because I was behind Lanre so I took a step forward and stood in between them, despite Lanre’s blockage.

“Misunderstanding? You called this a misunderstanding? Babygirl, you’re a married woman, you’re my woman yet you’re following him around? How’s that a misunderstanding?” He gritted out as he looked at me with hurt in his eyes. I felt as if my heart had been ripped out of my chest. It was painful seeing him looking so hurt and heartbroken.

“No o, I’m not cheating on you. I promise, I’m not cheating on you. I actually bumped into Lanre in the hospital, he has been treating me. You know, when you assaulted me and I fell sick. I even went there today to receive the last dose of my injection.” I spilled out everything immediately. My heart just didn’t want to see him looking all hurt and sad. Lanre eyed me scornfully. He was definitely disappointed that I was trying to explain the details to my husband. I ignored him.

“If that’s the case, why didn’t you inform me that you bumped into my friend in the hospital? I wouldn’t have known anything if I hadn’t decided to tail you today.” He replied me while staring at me straight in the eyes intensely. His gaze was burning my heart and I felt terrible. My lips quivered as I ransacked my brain for a brilliant response.

“I don’t think she has any reason to report every of her movement to you. You don’t deserve it, as.s.h.o.le!” Lanre yelled at him and I faced him before Darlington could produce a comeback for him.

“Lanre, please, let’s be civil here. We’re in a public space. Don’t let us attract unnecessary attention.” I chided him gently. He scoffed in annoyance. Darlington huffed.

“Babygirl, if you know what’s good for you today, you’d get into my car this instant and let’s go home.” Darlington informed me firmly.

“She’s not going with you. You can’t order her around. She isn’t your property.” Lanre replied me. I inhaled sharply.

“She is mine. She belongs to me. Whether I order her around or not is none of your concern. She is my woman!!! Now, Babygirl, get into that car before I lose it.” Darlington warned me. It was as if he had a firm hold on my heart and brain. It was as if he was the commander of my heart. He commanded me and my heart was so willing to do his wishes.

“You can’t order her around, you rude j.e.r.k! Angel, let’s go… I’m ready to take you to anywhere you want to go to, as long as it’s not his side.” Lanre said immediately and they started bickering, despite my attempts to stop them.

“Angel? When did my woman become your angel, you thieving bas.ta.rd?” Darlington retorted.

“She has always been my angel, I didn’t steal anything from you, you arrogant j.er.k!” Lanre shot back.

“Guys!!!” I screamed and that got their attention. I inhaled sharply and faced Lanre.

“Lanre, I’m going to just go back home with Darlington today. I trust you’d honour my decision. He’s still my husband.” I informed him calmly and he was taken aback. He couldn’t believe I chose my husband over him. He looked sullen.

“I’m sorry. I’m very sure this is the right thing for me to do right now. Let’s talk later.” I told him and immediately went into my husband’s car.

Darlington and Lanre glared at each other for a second before they both walked into their various cars. My husband joined me in the car with a self-satisfied smile. I knew he was definitely pleased that I was submissive enough to agree to follow him home. We didn’t say anything to each other as he drove out of the relaxation center.

In silence, I watched as he gritted his jaw, clenched and unclenched his hands on the steering wheel. I wanted to reach out to him, even if it was by just holding his hand, to let him know I was with him, so he could stop boiling with rage, but I couldn’t bring myself to do so. He’d just driven for few minutes when all of a sudden, he slowed down and parked at a secluded spot.

I was frightened. I wondered what was going through his mind, and what he would do to me.
