BLEEDING SACRIFICE
CHAPTER ELEVEN
“What is it again, Nora?!” Mathieu asked in rage.
“I was on my way here when my car broke down, and I was attacked by some robbers.”
“Oh, hope you’re okay?” Mathieu’s wife asked.
“Thank God for some good Samaritans who helped me chase them away. Where is my sister’s little bastard?!” she looked at Mathieu, who looked disgusted at her.
“When will you ever change, Nora?” Mathieu asked in rage.
“What????”
“Hellen is your niece and probably the only relative you have that will remind you of your second mum, Elonga. It’s high time you start treating her like one of us, or I am cutting ties with you.”
“No way! No way, Mathieu, that brat! That disrespectful brat will always remain a bastard in this family.”
“Can I ask you something?”
“What do you want, Mathieu?”
“Why do you despise this girl so much? I mean, what did she even do to you that you hate her so much that you can’t even stand her?”
“You sure you want to know?”
“Tell me, Nora!”
“Firstly, with the kind of lifestyle that Elonga lived, we know nothing of the girl’s father. What if he’s a stone-cold criminal? Apart from that, she stole my sister from me.”
“What??? Do you even hear yourself? You sound like a teenager right now.”
She lowered her voice.
“Ever since she was born, all the love and friendship that Elonga and I had disappeared.”
“Of course, Nora, she was her daughter, and she deserved everything.”
“Can I ask you something else? Did you ever lack anything while in school?”
“No, but that doesn’t…” Nora said, feeling guilty.
“She made sure that you never lacked anything, but not once had you proposed that we do something for her. All you thought of is the little attention her daughter stole from you.”
Mathieu took out the letter addressed to her and threw it at her. He placed his hands on his forehead in disappointment and continued.
“Not once did you think as an elder sister that you could propose that we do something good for our sister. Now she’s gone, you, of all people, knew the life she lived and joined other people to mock her. In her last days on earth, we could not even try to protect or help her,” Mathieu said as he angrily left Nora swimming in guilt.
She gently walked to where the letter was dropped and picked it up. A few minutes later, tears rolled down her eyes. She hurriedly followed Mathieu to talk to him, but he drove her away. Mathieu and Nora’s relationship became estranged.
After years of living with Cynthia, Hellen gets united with her father, and he takes her abroad with him. Mathieu, after a long while trying, finally gets in contact with Hellen. Being the man of the family, he invites her to come home so that they could talk and get the family united.
