Frank then started staying with his parents. His mother had also known about his issue with Sarah.
Frank still doesn’t go to work but his parents don’t allow him to skip meals or stay lonely. His mother watches over him as if he was a toddler.
His father was worried about his condition. He still believes Frank loves his wife, the reason why he’s not yet his usual self.
A few days later, Frank’s father was alone with his wife in the room and they were discussing.
“I need to have a word with Sarah’s father but I don’t want to go to their house,” Frank’s father said.
“He’s your old-time friend, you know the best place to meet him. But why don’t you want to go to their house?”
“You know our children’s case is still pending and we cannot go to their house concerning that, without Frank’s consent.”
“That’s true.”
“So I’m planning on seeing him tomorrow being Sunday, after their church service. So we will worship at the church tomorrow.”
“Alright, it’s a nice idea.”
So the following day, Frank’s parents started preparing for church. His mother went to his room and saw him still lying in the bed.
“Frank, you are still in bed?”
“Good morning mum.”
“Good morning, I hope you had a good night’s rest.”
“Yes, mum.”
“Frank, you haven’t left this house since you came back. Get up and prepare, let’s go to church.”
Frank was feeling so reluctant.
“Be fast about it, please don’t keep us waiting,” she said and left afterwards.
“This woman won’t let me rest, she thinks I’m still a kid. Let me just follow them.”
He then got up from bed and started preparing.
A few minutes later, they were all set to leave. They went out and entered the car. Frank’s father started the car and they left.
In no time, they were in the church. They got out of the car and entered the auditorium. They joined the rest of the congregants.
Service had already begun and everyone was engrossed in the activities going on.
As the service went on, Frank noticed that a girl was sitting alone secluded from the rest of the congregation. He looked closely and was surprised to see it was Sarah.
He tapped his mother.
“Mummy is that not Sarah,” Frank asked in a low tone.
Her mother looked closely too.
“Yes, she is the one.”
“Why is she sitting alone and lonely there?”
“I think she’s excommunicated.”
“Excommunicated, how? Why?”
“Because of what she did. That’s the tradition of the church.”
“What did she do,” Frank asked looking so inquisitive.
His mother looked at him in disbelief and kept mute.
“Please tell me, Mum, what did she do?”
“You are asking me? Ok, I’ll tell you. She was excommunicated because of the reason you sent her away.”
“What! How did the church know? Does it mean everyone is aware? What sort of embarrassment is this,” he was almost raising his voice.
“Frank reduce your voice, what is your problem?”
His father looked at him but didn’t say a word.
Frank was still complaining bitterly and wanted to stand up.
When his parents saw it was getting out of hand, his mother took him by the hand and they gently went outside. His father followed them.
They were trying so hard so that people wouldn’t notice what was going on.
“Frank what is the problem?” his father asked as they were outside.
“Dad, why are they embarrassing my wife?”
“It’s their tradition.”
“What rubbish tradition, who involved them? So it means that everyone in this church is aware of our problems.”
“I wouldn’t know.”
“Oh, I can imagine the pain she’s passing through, that’s too much. She looked so pale. I’m going to get her out of that place,” he said and turned to enter the church but his father stopped him.
“Frank, what are you trying to do? Are you okay? You can’t just go there and ask her to leave that position.”
“It’s so embarrassing Dad, I want her back,” he said looking gloomy.
“We need to leave this place first because I don’t understand your behaviour. Let’s go, Frank’s father said and moved close to where he parked his car.
Frank didn’t want to leave but his mother persuaded him and they entered the car and drove off.
