THE SUDDEN PROPOSAL 3
The Jollof rice called my name slowly, I was ready for a feast.
When the knock persisted, I gulped some water and I headed towards the door.
Since the aim is never to be caught unfresh, I activated the cuteness in me and I peeped using that tiny hole in my door. You people know what you call it.
Men and brethren, there wasn’t a better time I believed in the existence of village people. Folu was standing at the other side of my door and my heart started beating, “gbim gbim.” Was it that I joke too much or was I not firm enough when I stopped this man from visiting me ever again?
Does he want to bring this game to my neighborhood so that I would be given a new tag? After contemplating for a while, I went back to continue eating my food.
“I know you’re inside and I won’t leave until you open the door and hear me out,” Folu said.
It was at this point that I knew that this was a setup. After like 1 hour, Folu was still firmly present at my veranda. I decided to activate the vawulence in me and give it to him woto woto.
The doorknob opened and Folu stood up immediately.
“Look, B you need to calm down,” Folu uttered.
“First of all, don’t call me B, call me Sophy and if you’re not okay with that, you can go.”
“At least, let me in so we can talk.”
“Brother, my house is not your home,” I fired.
“It will be soon,” he affirmed.
“In your wildest dreams, Folu. Please, come and be going. I came out to say this so it doesn’t look like I am a ba.d person.”
“You are a b.ad person. What’s more, I am an unwise person for loving you so intentionally. Don’t you just get it? I’m not here to play around, I want you to be my all.”
“Chei! Wahalur! Who did I offend? I thought you were supposed to be apologizing now?”
“B, aside from being a ba.d person, you’re also a liar. Look at how you used me just to cover your trail today.”
“So, because of the little favour I wanted from you at that minute, you decided to take the bull by the horns, abi? No now, you wanted to use one stone to k!ll 2 birds. Nice one,” I mumbled.
“Let’s settle this properly. First, you must apologize for using me then afterward, I may consider apologizing for taking you unawares. But, what is sweet about a marriage proposal if you know about it?”
“Ahhhh! I am not just lucky with friends. Who did this to me? Folu, it’s getting late. You have to leave now. I don’t want to shut the door against you so it doesn’t look like I am rude.”
As God did it, Folu didn’t need much persuasion before he stood up and left. His countenance for the very first time was down but I pretended not to care.
I entered my house and I shut the door. I changed into something warmer and I entered under my sheets to sleep.
I couldn’t sleep however as thoughts of Folu’s drama kept ringing in my head. Has he taken my name to a prayer house or the part of the scripture that says ” there is no rest for the wic!ked,” is at work in my life? Hmm! I am not wic!ked. Immediately, I rebuked the voice whispering in my ears and forced myself to sleep.
