Once in Love
Episode Seven
There is a honk at the gate, and Mr. William is back even before his wife prepares for work.
She is not pleased to see him. He drives in, and Isabel rushes to hug him, “Welcome back, daddy. How was your trip?
I have missed you,” she asks excitedly, holding his hands. Glancing at his wife from head to toe, “Why are you not coming to hug me?
Are you not happy to see me?” Mr. William asks as his wife reluctantly goes to hug him, perceiving a different perfume from his well-ironed suit.
The things that Joan said kept playing in her mind.
“I know this is not his perfume. Could it be true that he went out spending time with another woman and pretending to go on a business trip?
Why is he behaving like he just got caught?”
These thoughts kept playing in her head that she even forgets she is supposed to take her husband’s briefcase from him and drop it in the house like she usually does.
“You are already dressed. Sorry, I didn’t come back to breakfast.
I will be waiting for you both to come back. I’m so tired and I need to rest,” Mr. William says as he went inside the house, ignoring his wife’s actions.
It could be because she misses him.
His wife just nods as he speaks and went off to drop Isabel at school and also go to work, she was a bit earlier than Kemi, her friend.
Although she was just moody, refusing to talk to anyone, Kemi needed to ask what the problem was.
“Are you okay, my friend?” She asks as Anna just stares at her without saying anything else. “Do you think my husband is chėating on me?”
She finally drops the bōmbshell, as Kemi opens her mouth wide. “Why would you say that? Since when did you start these trust issues?
Why would you even think your husband is cheating on you?” She asks.
Anna knows that if she tells Kemi that Joan brought the whole thing into her head, Kemi will scōld her.
She had to cover it up with the fact that she is just assuming. “I know that man will never cheat on you, he is too responsible for that, my friend.
Loosen up. By the way, he was supposed to come back today. Is he back yet?”
Kemi drags her chair further for some gist. As they both notice the manager, they had to behave.
“My husband is back, he came back this morning,” Anna smiles at Kemi, saying it in a whisper.
Anna is too occupied with work that she does not have time to pick Isabel up from school, and Mr. William is also sleeping out of tiredness, forgetting that his wife did not pick Isabel up from school.
It was when Anna gets home from work, thinking her husband has gone to pick their daughter from school, that she gets back home and sees him sleeping and even snoring loudly.
“Isabel, Isabel,” she calls, and there is no response.
She goes straight to their room and sees her husband sleeping. “Honey, don’t tell me you have not picked Isabel up from school?”
Mr. William said nothing, he tossed around the bed before opening his eyes. “You mean you did not pick Isabel up from school?
How was I supposed to know that? And since when did you start raising your voice at me?”
He asks her in a soft tone. He isn’t in the mood to pick a fīght, he sits on the bed, and Anna rushes out and enters her car to go and pick Isabel up from school.
“As if it was not enough that he is cheating on her with a girl he knows nothing about, he is refusing to pick their only daughter up from school.”
She thinks as she enters the car and drives off to pick Isabel up, but as she arrives at the school, everywhere is locked.
She could only find the security.
Where are the students and the teachers? She asks, curious because even when she goes late to pick Isabel from school.
Her teacher is always there waiting for her to come and pick her daughter, and her daughter is nowhere to be found.
“Madam, everybody don go, na me remain,” she doesn’t want to waste her time talking.
“Oh my God, I did not send anybody to pick my daughter from school today, where is my daughter?”
She asks herself as she picks up the phone to call. The phone rings, but nobody picks up.
Her fear grows stronger as she has to try calling the teacher again. “Hello Mrs. Wilson, it’s Mrs. William, please where is my daughter?”
She asks, her voice already shaking. The caller on the other end was silent for a minute.
“Oh Mrs. Williams, I thought you sent your sister to come and pick your daughter from school.
She said you were too busy and that is why you sent her to come and pick Isabel.
Although Isabel was feeling reluctant to go with her, it was getting late, and I tried calling to inform you, but you did not pick up the phone.”
Mrs. William doesn’t know what to say. “I did not ask anyone to pick my daughter from school.
What school will give a child out to a total stranger?
I don’t have a sister and I don’t even know why you will just give my daughter out to anyone.
Anna screams on the phone. And the teacher ends the call.
“Oh my God, how will this happen to me? Who will it be that picked my daughter from school?” She asks herself as she hurried home.
As soon as she reaches the house, Mr. William was already dressed and as he sights her, he asks, “Why did you take long to come back, and where is Isabel?”
The question strikės her like a thīnderbolt.
“I, hmmm, I went to pick her from school, and her teacher said my sister came to pick her up from school,” she did not finish talking when Mr. William started, “your sister, oh my God.
” But you don’t have a sister, who will that be?
You see why I keep telling you that we should withdraw her from that school.
“Find my daughter for me, if anything happens to her, you will not like me,” Mr. William yells, stōrming out of the house and calling on the gateman, “open the gate.”
