When you Love someone, it becomes difficult to lie to them as you are aware that the pain of deception runs too deep. However, we sometimes resort to telling lies to shield our loved ones from the harsh truth. Nevertheless, doing the wrong thing for the right reason doesn’t make it right. A lie remains a lie, whether it’s a white lie, a half-truth, a concealed fact, or an omission. Eventually, lies turn bitter, regardless of how sweet they seemed at first.
Secrets and lies once discovered can fatally damage relationships. No matter how cautious you are, the truth will eventually catch up with you one day because lies and deceptions have an expiration date. Regardless of the motive behind a lie, when the truth eventually comes to light, trust shatters irreparably. You can imagine how It takes so much truth to build trust but a single lie to destroy it.
Cheating on a good person is like throwing away a diamond and selecting a mere stone. Infidelity within a marriage is among the lowest act one can engage in and it comes from focusing on what you lack rather than appreciating what you already have. No one deserves to be cheated on emotionally or physically. In the end, cheating may offer temporary satisfaction, but it unfailingly leads to permanent regret.
Upon discovering that my husband had moved out of our home with his belongings, my heart sank, fully aware that I had shattered his trust and his heart. That morning, I went to my shop feeling devastated by my actions. As the night passed with no sign of his return, I felt compelled to confide in Alex, sharing the heartbreaking truth.
“Jesus Christ, Vivian! You did what with whom?” she exclaimed upon hearing my confession.
“Alex, please, I understand that my actions are despicable and deserving of judgment and condemnation. But right now, I don’t need your judgment. My marriage is hanging by a thread as we speak and the least you can do for me right now is to give friendly advice on how to manage or mend the mess I’ve created,” I pleaded.
“Vivian, but why? Why would you cheat on someone like Kennedy with someone like Daniel, who has never truly appreciated your worth?” Alex inquired further with sincere curiosity and confusion written on her face.
“Alex, it takes someone who has walked in my shoes to understand why I made such a terrible choice. The truth is, I’m not proud of my actions. They disgust me more than anyone else, so please, let’s focus on finding a way to remedy this situation,” I earnestly requested.
“Okay, so, what’s the plan? What do you want me to do?” She asked, crossing her arms.
“I need your help to meet with my husband. He abruptly left our home yesterday, and I can’t reach him by phone cause he hasn’t been taking my calls. Going to his workplace could worsen things and expose our situation to his colleagues, so I’m asking for your assistance in tracking down his location so I can talk to him privately. He doesn’t deserve all this,” I explained with regret.
“Alright, I’ll try to find out where he is. I hope you can resolve this because once trust is broken, it’s hard to mend,” Alex replied, speaking a painful truth.
Two days later, Alex successfully located my husband’s whereabouts, and we drove to the hotel where he was staying. She waited in the lounge while I nervously approached his room.
Standing at his door, my heart pounded as I knocked. He opened the door and tried to shut it on me upon seeing me, but I pushed my way in.
“Why are you here? How did you find me?” He demanded, his voice filled with anger.
Without a word, I dropped to my knees, tears streaming down my face.
“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry…”
“Sorry? For what exactly? For lying or for cheating on me with your so-called ex? How could you, Vivian? If you loved him so much, why did you marry me in the first place? Was I just a replacement for you?” He raged.
“No, Kennedy, you weren’t a replacement. I chose you because I love you,” I sobbed.
“Love?” He scoffed. “Come on Vivian, you can’t lie or cheat on someone you claim to love. I may have been foolish not to notice your affairs with your ex, but I’m not that stupid not to know that someone who loves you would not put themselves in a position to lose you.”
“Kennedy, believe me, I’m not proud of my actions. I regret them and have been in therapy for a year to ensure I never make that mistake again,” I cried.
“Mistake? No, Vivian. A mistake is an accident. Cheating and lying are intentional choices, and you made them. So don’t hide behind the word mistake to justify your actions,” He fumed.
“Yes, maybe you’re right. I may have willingly indulged in those actions because, initially, I felt I was doing the wrong thing for the right reason. You were always occupied with work, leaving no room for intimacy, and I misinterpreted your dedication to providing for our family as insensitive to my needs. But immediately I realized my mistake, I cut ties with my ex and tried to focus on our marriage. Then I further realized I had an addiction problem and I sought help because I love you and don’t want to ruin the six wonderful years we’ve had,” I cried.
“Vivian, your infidelity wasn’t solely caused by my absence. It stemmed from your desire to fulfill your personal needs, your inability to set boundaries with your ex, your entitlement, your lack of self-control, and more,” He accused.
“Kennedy…please…” I cried.
“…I may end up forgiving you because you’re the mother of my children, but I won’t be foolish enough to trust you ever again. You cheating on me was a choice, not a mistake. You betrayed my trust,” He declared.
“I’m sorry… Kennedy.” I cried.
“…For me, deception is the ultimate betrayal. However, I’m not sad you betrayed me. I’m sad that things can never return to how they were again. Just so you know, you didn’t just cheat on me, you cheated on us, on our kids’ future as a family. I hope you remember that forever,” He said.
“Kennedy, please…” I cried.
He turned away.
“My freedom from your lies and infidelity is what matters now. You made your choice to cheat and lie, so I’m making my choice to walk away forever. Go home, you’ll hear from my lawyer soon.”
Those were his final words, before he grabbed his suitcase and headed for work leaving me heartbroken and in tears.
