30 Days in Brothel Episode Three

For three days now, Ndu have not seen his wife and he was getting really worried. On the morning of the fourth day, he went to the police station to register a case of a missing person. This was after he had searched the entire neighbourhood and failed to see his wife. He had visited his wifeโ€™s family house and she was not there. He had searched the houses of all their relatives and everyone said they did not see Kate. But even after he had reported the matter to the police, Nduโ€™s heart was still not at rest. He was deeply worried about the whereabouts of his wife.

The most disturbing part was that all her phone numbers were switched off. He would call and none of them would ring. Ndu began to wonder if his wife was kidnapped. There have been many cases of kidnapping lately and Ndu was wondering if his wife had fallen victim to the gang of kidnappers rampaging around town. On the Sunday of that same week, Ndu went to his church to worship as usual. He was not himself throughout the church service. He was just waiting for the service to be over so that he would go and see the pastor to ask for prayers.

Ndu is the type of person who likes to dance and praise God in church, but on that day, he was sitting as if he was mourning a dead relative. The past few days have been very hellish for him and he did not feel like it was time for him to be happy and dance in church. So, he was just seated calmly and even his head did not shake to the sound of the beautiful music that was playing in church. As soon as the benediction was said and he heard the last amen, Ndu rushed to see his pastor so that he would pray for him and his family.

He had to wait for a long time before he was able to see the pastor because there were other people who needed prayers and the pastor was attending to them one after the other. There were like five people who the pastor would see before it would get to Nduโ€™s turn. Every now and then, the pastor would sit calmly to listen to the people coming to see him and then he would lay hands on their heads to pray. Many of the church members believed that the pastorโ€™s prayer was highly efficacious in solving their problems. That was why they line up to see him. After about one hour, it finally got to Nduโ€™s turn and he was allowed to enter the pastorโ€™s posh office to speak to him. The office was very cozy because there was an air conditioner there which made the temperature in the place very nice on the skin. Ndu could feel the air conditioner but he was still sweating due to what his mind was going through.

โ€œBrother Ndu, what is going on with you? I was watching you during the church service and I observed that you were not yourself. You were not dancing, you were not singing and you were not worshipping God the way you used to do. What is the matter? Is everything alright? You can talk to me, Iโ€™m your pastor. Whatever the problem is, we can pray about it and the obstacle would give way.โ€ The pastor said. There was a white paper and pen lying on the large table before him. He uses the pen and paper to jot down stories told him by those who come to seek the face of God in their lives.

โ€œPastor, Iโ€™m in trouble. My wife is missing. I have not seen her now for like five days and the whole thing is giving me sleepless nights. I have not been able to sleep well since she disappeared. I have searched everywhere, including reporting to the police but I have heard nothing from them. I went to her family house and also checked her workplace and no one appears to have any clue about the whereabouts of my wife. Please, sir, I have come to see you so that you will help me in prayers. Iโ€™m scared that I might lose my wife. I donโ€™t know if she has been kidnapped.โ€ Ndu said tearfully. In fact, he was crying. He tried not to cry but he could not control his tears.

โ€œThis is worrisome. What happened before she left? I mean, how did she leave the house? Didnโ€™t she tell you where she was going to? How can your wife leave the house without you having a clue of where she was going to? What did she tell you before leaving the house?โ€ The pastor asked.

โ€œShe had gone to work as usual on that day, but I donโ€™t know if she closed from work or not because Iโ€™m not sure if she came home. I kept expecting her to come back from work but I never saw her. I canโ€™t tell exactly what happened. I canโ€™t tell if she got home and left or if she did not come home at all. That evening, I was in the bedroom with my mother who is sick. I was helping her to rub oil on her knees because she has arthritis. I heard my wifeโ€™s footsteps but I could not come out because my mother was going through much pain and I needed to help her. She left our house that same evening after the visit. When I came out with my mother, I did not see my wife. For three days now, I have not heard from her. Iโ€™m so worried.โ€ Ndu said with a sad voice.

โ€œAlright, let us pray. There is nothing God cannot do.โ€ The pastor said as he prayed with Ndu, asking God to help him locate his wife as soon as possible. Ndu left the office after the prayers.

โ€œThis man doesnโ€™t know that his wife is at the brothel. Well, I will not tell him. I will continue to visit her at the brothel. She is now mine to enjoy.โ€ The pastor said. That same evening, he visited the brothel to be with Kate.
